Attorney Questions Alibi of Accused Gilgo Beach Serial Killer’s Wife, Raises Doubts in Heuermann Case

Attorney Questions Alibi of Accused Gilgo Beach Serial Killer’s Wife, Raises Doubts in Heuermann Case

In a stunning twist to the Gilgo Beach murder case, attorney John Ray, representing the families of victims Shannan Gilbert and Jessica Taylor, has raised alarming questions about the alibi of accused serial killer Rex Heuermann’s estranged wife, Asa Ellerup. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney had asserted that Ellerup was out of town during each murder, but Ray challenged this during an event at St. John’s University in Queens.

Ray claims to have spoken with an Atlantic City hotel manager who revealed that Ellerup and her children arrived later than investigators believe, suggesting they might have been in town during one of the murders. In response, Ellerup’s attorney, Bob Macedonio, warned that if Tierney’s information about Ellerup is incorrect, the entire case against Heuermann could collapse.

Macedonio questioned the timing of the revelation, emphasizing the rarity of presenting such details upfront in a bail application. He argued that if Tierney’s assertion proves wrong, it could cast reasonable doubt over the entire case. Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani expressed skepticism over the District Attorney making an argument he wasn’t sure of, questioning the logic behind such a move.

Rex Heuermann, a 60-year-old New York City architect and father of two, faces charges in connection with the “Gilgo Four” killings of sex workers. The bodies of Amber Lynn Costello, Melissa Barthelemy, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, and Megan Waterman were found on Gilgo Beach in 2010, wrapped in burlap within days of each other between December 2010 and April 2011.

Heuermann’s arrest in July followed the reopening of the case in January 2022 by former NYPD chief Rodney Harrison, then Suffolk County police commissioner. The arrest was made after Heuermann was linked to three victims through DNA found on a discarded pizza.

As this shocking revelation unfolds, the already high-profile Gilgo Beach case takes an unexpected turn, raising concerns about the credibility of key details and the potential impact on the legal proceedings against Rex Heuermann.
