Chauncey Billups Postgame Interview | Portland Trail Blazers 77, OKC Thunder 139

Chauncey Billups Postgame Interview | Portland Trail Blazers 77, OKC Thunder 139

Most complete game of the season by the team tonight holding Portland to 27 percent shooting while shooting 57 percent from the field; having the starters get needed rest for the rest of the game and the bench getting extended minutes for the last 18 minutes of the game. Let’s continue to stack days upon days. Orlando is next at home on Saturday!!!

It’s crazy to think that these teams are about the same age and Portland is seen as a team with a bright future which is what people really should also be saying about us but instead, we’re contending OKC is just ridiculously ahead of schedule like almost no young core before them has ever been.

In an interview, the coach of the Portland Trail Blazers had to say this about their loss to OKC Thunder

Interviewer-First stuff. How did it go down?

Chauncey Billups-Yeah, it was. I mean this was, not much good to say about this one for us. I mean, I will say this. I thought that we generated some pretty good looks in the first half the fact that we couldn’t make pretty much anything deflated us, you know?

But more than anything on a defensive end, make sure we just had no resistance man, you know, get 58 points in the paint, the first-half information that it takes to most teams Don’t get that in a game, you know. So we just had no resistance. I thought we allowed our lack of shot-making to deflate us on the other end of the floor and then you plan to get to an elite team.

You know that moves the ball, you know, they get 41 assists on 53 made field goes unheard of, you know? So it was it was almost like a perfect storm to be honest with you. You know, nothing worked for us

Interviewer– How much of it shot selection for you guys versus their defense?

Chauncey Billups– I thought that you know they allowed the most catch-and-shoot threes in the league you know.

So we did a good job of finding shooters or finding shots. We couldn’t make shots you know but they do have a really good defense. Please don’t give me wrong ever a really good defense. So I think it was a little bit of both, but we did a good job of trying to get the type of shots that we wanted. You know, just couldn’t make it,

Interviewer– You’ve got a team of professionals what’s your message to them, either halftime or timeouts in the second half when a game gets that out of control and how do you think they responded to it?

Chauncey Billups– Yeah. You know, when a game gets kind of that far out of reach and you got a game again tomorrow, you got to be smart about when you take your starters out of there.

Do not take them out of there. You know maybe seven minutes left in the third quarter so far out of reach but to me it’s about you you don’t have nice like this, you know? I’ve been on I’ve been in a game like this before but on the other side of it, you just can’t let go of the rope.

You know, and I was proud of those young guys. Those young guys came out there it was tired as heck man. But, they laid it on the line and they fought hard. It was still picking up full court and getting deflections and that’s what you want, you know, you want guys, just not gonna let go to rope out there, so I was proud about that.
